Bangkok · Mechanical service

My Seiko 5 hadn't been serviced in eight years and had been running roughly five minutes slow per day. Brought it to Cogwise — they were straightforward about what a full service would involve and the cost before taking it in. Got it back after about twelve days running within ten seconds a day. The condition note they included was a nice touch; I hadn't seen that done elsewhere.

Clean, professional workshop. I came in with two quartz watches needing batteries — one of them also had a gasket that was visibly dried out. They pointed it out, explained the additional cost (a few hundred baht), and asked before doing anything. Everything was ready the same afternoon. Small thing, but being told about the gasket rather than just being charged for it afterwards made a difference.

Chiang Mai collector · Vintage restoration

Brought in my grandfather's Longines from 1962 — a piece I'd been holding onto for years without knowing what condition the movement was in. Somchai spent time explaining what he found at the initial assessment, including which parts were still serviceable and what would need sourcing. The restoration took just under two months, which was the timeline we discussed upfront. The watch is now running well and looks as it should — not over-polished. Very pleased.

Bangkok · Mechanical service

I've used three different watch repair places in Bangkok over the years. Cogwise is the first one that gave me a written summary of the work done. It sounds minor but when you're spending ฿8,900 on a service it's reasonable to want to know what actually happened inside the movement. The timing result they included — before and after regulation — was a useful piece of documentation.

Quick and no-fuss. My Tissot quartz had stopped and I dropped in without an appointment on a Wednesday morning. They had it done by early afternoon. The price is higher than a shopping mall kiosk, but the difference here is they actually inspect the seal and check the watch properly rather than just swapping the battery. I'll come back when it's due again.

Australian expat, Bangkok · Vintage restoration

I had an old Omega Constellation that hadn't run in years. Before bringing it here I'd been told by two other workshops that parts would be impossible to source. Cogwise assessed it properly — found that most parts were serviceable, and sourced a replacement click spring from a parts supplier in Europe. The total scope and cost were explained clearly before anything was ordered. The watch is working again. Genuinely impressed.

Three detailed service stories

Mechanical service

Challenge

Client's daily-wear ETA 2824-based automatic was losing around 8 minutes per day. Had not been serviced in over a decade despite regular wear.

Work done

Full movement disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, replacement of the mainspring (worn), lubrication, reassembly and timing regulation. Returned in 13 working days.

Result

Movement running at +6 seconds per day on timing machine, regulated to +4 seconds. Client confirmed it running accurately three months after collection.

"I'd been putting it off for years. Worth doing properly."

Vintage restoration

Challenge

A 1968 Swiss pocket watch movement inherited from a client's father — stopped for an unknown period, with dried lubricants and a broken click spring. Dial and case in reasonable condition.

Work done

Full overhaul, part sourcing for click spring (6-week wait from supplier), case light polishing only on inner surfaces where agreed. Timeline: 8 weeks total, discussed upfront.

Result

Movement running within acceptable daily rate for pocket watch tolerances. Client received detailed condition report and photographic record of work stages.

"It was my father's watch. I didn't want to rush it."

Quartz battery

Challenge

Client brought in a diver's quartz rated to 200m. Previous battery replacement elsewhere had left the watch without functioning water resistance — noted after a brief swimming incident.

Work done

Battery replaced, gasket replaced (original was visibly pinched and distorted), case-back reseated with appropriate torque. Water resistance pressure-tested to 20 bar.

Result

Watch returned with documented water resistance test result. Client advised to have gasket inspected at each future battery change, which was noted on the condition slip.

"They explained exactly what had gone wrong and how to avoid it next time."
